Overview:

If you’re planning to earn a college degree, you may be required to take general education or prerequisite courses, such as Introductory Psychology, before you will be allowed to begin the core courses related to your chosen area of study. It is possible to save time by completing many of these gen eds using the credit by exam method, where you take one exam to prove mastery of the subject area and earn transferable college credit — just like the credits you’d earn in a semester-long course.

This course prepares you to “test out” of a college-level Introductory Psychology course in just 5 weeks time via CLEP exam. You can earn 3 credits or the equivalent of one semester in an Introductory Psychology course. The course covers psychological theory, principles and terminology. You’ll learn about:

  • Goals of psychology
  • Perception, consciousness and intelligence
  • Learning, motivation and emotion
  • Theories of human development
  • Psychological disorders
  • Social psychology

You can expect to spend 3 hours each week in lessons. In addition to your lesson studies, you will be expected to review your course material throughout the week. The amount of time you spend studying outside of your lessons will depend on the course subject matter, your prior knowledge, and your individual learning style. In general, most colleges suggest that you devote 3 hours of study for every hour of lesson. If your lesson is 3 hours, expect to spend 9 hours reviewing that week’s material.
