Answers to your questions
The CLEP Introductory Sociology exam is designed to assess your knowledge of the material you would typically learn in an introductory-level, one-semester sociology course at most colleges and universities in the U.S. The exam tests your knowledge on basic facts and general theories of sociology, and does not require high-level knowledge of the subject area.
The exam is 90 minutes in length and consists of approximately 100 multiple-choice questions (some of which are pretest questions and will not be scored). It is composed of 5 sections: Institutions, Social Patterns, Social Processes, Social Stratification, and the Sociological Perspective.
In order to pass the CLEP Introductory Sociology exam and earn credit by exam, you will need a score of 50 or higher. This score would be equivalent to achieving a C in the corresponding course and is the minimum passing score according to the American Council on Education (ACE).
CLEP exam scores for the Introductory Sociology exam will be displayed on the screen immediately after you complete the exam. You can also view your score within one business day in your My Account on the College Board portal.
According to the College Board, you can retake the Intro to Sociology CLEP exam one time every three months. If you try to retake the exam within three months of your last attempt, the test administration will be considered invalid, and your score will be cancelled.
