Maryann Hendricks, RN - Hellertown, Pennsylvania
After being an LPN for almost 10 years Maryann decided to go back to school after realizing that hospitals in her area were no longer hiring LPNs and her career opportunities were going to be very limited unless she pursued getting her RN.
“I decided to start with the Excelsior College LPN to RN program and planned on testing out of the classes on my own since having a toddler and another child on the way there was no way I could find the time or extra money to take Excelsior's classes,” Maryann said. “The first book I received was Developmental Psychology. I was truly horrified when I got it in the mail. It was HUGE, like 700+ pages huge. Within a month I had already given up. I tried to read it, make notes, flashcards...but I truly had no idea what was important to know. Did I need to know it ALL? I tried calling but there was really no support. I put the book aside and never picked it up again."
"Unfortunately, I wasted a lot of time with Excelsior College (direct without Achieve) and still had nothing to show for it” Maryann admitted. “I did a ton of research about LPN to RN Bridge Programs and when I learned about Achieve Test Prep I thought it was too good to be true, this program actually seemed more doable for someone like me who works and has small children to take care of.”
Maryann spoke with one of our Achieve Test Prep education coaches and was so impressed with the program she signed up immediately. “I met with a representative within a few days, and though very nervous about what I was getting myself into, signed up on the spot. So, here I sit, a little over 3 years later and I am DONE!!!! I had ZERO College Credits so I literally started from scratch.”
While Maryann was concerned about going back to school, Achieve and the structure that comes from the great teachers and live classes they provide helped set her on the right path. "I was very nervous in the beginning of this program (I've been out of school for a long time) and found myself frequently reaching out to the teachers and staff with questions about tests, crediting exams and advice about how to study. Classes are shorter than a typical 12 week College Course and the books and study guides were also condensed, making studying a lot easier and less time consuming since they break everything down for you. I never had to wait even a day for someone to get back to me with an answer. Everyone has been extremely supportive and encouraging during this experience. Achieve has classes right down the street from me, and also offers Virtual Classes which have been a lifesaver. I'll admit, I sit in class sometimes while folding laundry in my jammies but that's what I LOVED about it! I passed every exam the first time too-usually with an A or B grade. I know that there is no way I could have come this far on my own. The teachers are amazing and Achieve really concentrates on and breaks down what we need to know to pass these exams.”
For Maryann balancing going back to school, while raising a family and working almost full time was made easier by Achieve Test Prep. “I worked 30+ hours a week as an LPN and have two small children so I’ve found that this program, and the way it’s set up, was a blessing for me. The staff and teachers are so supportive. I never thought I’d be able to actually go back to school for my RN while my children were so young. I have also only taken one class at a time so it's taking me a little bit longer than it might take someone else. I am so happy that I found this program and strongly believe that it's worth every dime. Yes, there are cheaper ways to go about obtaining your RN, but I was not disciplined enough to do it on my own and found this to be the most convenient program for me. Achieve Test Prep is perfect, you actually “earn college credits” but it's so much quicker and easier than doing it on your own. I needed all the help I could get, and either way, it's still cheaper than a "brick and mortar" school and so much more convenient.”
Maryann Passes NCLEX with Achieve’s Help
"I recently passed the NCLEX with flying colors and now I am an RN. I already got a nice raise at the same job I was at before! I can honestly say I would NOT be an RN today if I had not found Achieve Test Prep. If you would like to speak with me about my experiences with Achieve please reach out – I am happy to talk to you about the program".
